The Beatles
The Beatles, a.k.a. 'the single biggest band of all time', were an iconic rock group from Liverpool, England. They are frequently cited as themost commercially successful and critically acclaimed band in modern history, with innovative music, a cultural impact that helped define the1960s, and an enormous influence on music that is still felt today. After conquering Europe, with successful tours to Germany and Sweden, the Beatles led the mid-1960s musical ‘British Invasion’ into theUnited States. Although their initial musical style was rooted in 1950s rock and roll and homegrown skiffle, the group explored a great varietyof musical styles including Psychedelic Rock, Experimental, Ballads, Western and Indian Classical among others.
Their clothes, hairstyles, andstatements made them trend-setters, while their growing social awareness saw their influence extend into the social and cultural revolutionsof the 1960s. Early on, the band consisted of George Harrison, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Stuart Sutcliffe, and Pete Best. The band got its first majorbreak playing in Hamburg, Germany, at some rather seedy nightclubs, beginning in 1960
Review by: Bertram F. Christmas
Since there were four Beatles, some bright thinking bootlegger INVENTED this Back-Track 4, some three or four years after the wildly sucessfull volumes 1-3 came into being. This bright thinking bootlegger, reboothed the original vols.1-3, adding new covers to them; John on one, Paul on another, and Ringo on the third. For this INVENTED 4rth volume, the bright thinker put George on the cover. Unfortunatly, the material he chose for HIS vol.4 was MUCH less interesting than what was/is to be found on vols. 1-3. We even have 20 second excerpts of some songs here, let alone half songs. Sound quality, although not bad, is not quite on par with the original volumes 1-3.
The ORIGINAL bootleggers retaliated, creating their own totally different, and far superior vol.4 not too long afterwards (cat.# BT 6370-2); and as with their original volumes 1-3, multiple Beatles were pictured on the cover of their vol.4. This was soon followed by Back-Track Part 5 (cat.# BT 6371-2), in what seemed to be an effort to eliminate the bright thinker. The psychology seemed to work, for this first Back-Track vol.4 (as well as his vol.1-3 repackagings) quickly dissapeared afterwards. This first Back-Track vol.4 is EXTREMELY hard to come by.
